Philanthropy

Through philanthropy we help our community and strengthen our Brotherhood. Community service is an essential component of our Chapter of the Delta Chi Fraternity. We host a wide variety of events involving both campus and the surrounding community.

Recent Philanthropies Include:

  • The Spring '09 Associate member class helped out some of the kids in Kirksville by volunteernig at the YMCA.

  • We have a jar set out in the house to collect donations that will help support muscular dystrophy research.

  • Participating in the "Wax for a Wish" event in which donations are given under the name of a certain person, whoever makes the most money gets their chest waxed.

Planned Philanthropy Events for the Future:

  • Raising money for the Jimmy V foundation by setting up a kiddie pool along one of the walkways in the quad with a bridge over it. Sure, people could go around it but for a monetary "donation toll" they will be admitted passage across the bridge.

  • We are also sponsoring a team for Relay For Life. Relay For Life is an overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs of the American Cancer Society. During the event, a team of our brothers will take turns walking or running laps to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

Annual Delta Chi Philanthropies:

  • We recently held our first annual "Sink a Ball, Save a Life" philanthropy event. We set up tables on the quad with water cups arranged in a triangle shape on one end of each table. People who donate get to try and throw ping pong balls into the cups. If they make it in, they get to keep the cup! All proceeds go to the Jimmy V foundation to help support cancer research.

  • Our Chapter also participates in The Big Event (local community service extravaganza). Every year, members of our chapter go out into the Kirksville community and assist those who cannot help themselves. In past years we have raked leaves, moved furniture and even helped move bricks.

  • Special Olympics are held on Truman's campus every year and Delta Chi's help out at this event by being official ""Buddies"" to the competitors. The buddies help the athletes get to their assigned events and give them positive reinforcement.

  • Another way we serve is by participating in the Missouri Adopt a Highway Program. Every semester our brothers help clean a beautiful stretch of Missouri Highway 63.
